What is fire & burglary insurance?

Your home or shop is your biggest illiquid asset.

A Standard Fire and Special Perils (SFSP) policy covers structural damage from fire, lightning, explosion, flood, storm and earthquake, while a burglary add-on covers theft of contents through forcible entry.

Structure & natural calamity cover

Rebuild or repair cost for your home or business premises after fire, flood, earthquake or storm damage.

Contents cover

Furniture, appliances, electronics and jewellery insured against fire and burglary, up to declared value.

Burglary & theft protection

Loss from forcible and violent entry into insured premises — distinct from simple theft without forced entry.

Alternate accommodation

Select plans reimburse temporary rent if your home becomes uninhabitable after an insured event.

Plan features

What's inside a modern property policy.

Structured to cover both the building and everything you've filled it with.

Frequently asked

Common questions, honestly answered.

In India, 'fire insurance' (formally a Standard Fire and Special Perils policy) is the core structure cover — homeowner's policies typically bundle this with contents, burglary and liability cover under one combined product, which is what we recommend for most residential clients.
It's included as a named peril in most standard SFSP policies today, but always confirm — some older or budget policies exclude it or require a specific add-on.
If your declared sum insured is lower than the actual rebuild/replacement cost, the insurer pays claims proportionately reduced — e.g., insured for 70% of actual value means only 70% of any claim is paid. Accurate valuation avoids this trap.
Up to a sub-limit (typically 10-25% of contents sum insured) unless you separately schedule high-value items by declared value — we recommend scheduling anything individually valuable.
Yes — tenants can insure their own contents (furniture, electronics, appliances) even though the structure is the landlord's responsibility to insure.
Most lenders require the mortgaged property to carry fire insurance for the loan tenure. We coordinate directly with your lender's requirements where applicable.
