What is motor insurance?

Mandatory protection for a depreciating, high-liability asset.

Motor insurance covers your vehicle and third-party liability arising from accidents, theft, fire and natural calamities. Third-party cover is mandatory by law; comprehensive cover additionally protects your own vehicle.

Third-party liability (mandatory)

Legally required cover for injury, death or property damage caused to a third party — driving without it is a punishable offence.

Own-damage protection

Comprehensive cover pays for repair or replacement of your vehicle after accident, fire, theft or natural calamity.

Personal accident cover

A mandatory PA cover of ₹15L for the owner-driver is bundled into every motor policy by regulation.

No-claim bonus

Claim-free years earn a discount of up to 50% on own-damage premium at renewal — protect it with an NCB rider.

Plan features

Add-ons that matter more than the base premium.

The base policy is standardised by regulation — the add-ons are where real protection differs.

Zero-depreciation

Full part replacement cost, no depreciation deduction on rubber, plastic and glass components.

Roadside assistance

24/7 towing, battery jump-start, fuel delivery and flat-tyre assistance anywhere in India.

Return-to-invoice

Pays the original on-road price — not depreciated IDV — if your vehicle is stolen or a total loss.

Engine protection

Covers engine damage from water ingression and oil leakage — excluded under standard comprehensive cover.

Coverage details

Third-party vs comprehensive — know the difference.

Two very different levels of protection, often confused at renewal time.

Legally mandatory

Third-party (mandatory)

Covers damage to the other party's vehicle, property and injury. Does NOT cover your own vehicle.

Frequently asked

Common questions, honestly answered.

For vehicles under 5 years old, yes. Without it, insurers deduct up to 50% depreciation on rubber, plastic and glass parts during claim settlement. The add-on costs ₹2,000-6,000/year but saves ₹15,000-40,000 in a mid-size accident claim.
Insured Declared Value is the maximum sum insurable — effectively your vehicle's current market value. A lower IDV cuts your premium but also caps your theft/total-loss payout. We help you set a realistic IDV, not just the cheapest one.
Yes. NCB is attached to you, not the insurer or the vehicle. Carry your NCB certificate when switching insurers or buying a new vehicle to retain your discount.
Yes — flood, earthquake, cyclone and other natural calamities are covered under comprehensive own-damage cover, subject to policy terms.
A lapsed policy means no own-damage cover and possibly a required inspection before renewal. Third-party cover lapsing also makes driving illegal. We send renewal reminders 30 days in advance.
For most owners, yes — a single tow-truck call without cover can cost ₹1,500-4,000, while the add-on typically costs ₹250-500/year and includes battery, fuel and flat-tyre assistance too.
